WITCHBORN

Nicholas Bowling

Set in 1577 London, Alyce’s mother is accused of being a witch and killed. Alyce escapes but she’s important in a war between queens and the witch finders are closing in on her. This dark and dangerous story is perfect for autumn. I read it for Halloween this year and it was the best choice! I flew through it and absolutely loved the atmosphere, mystery and magic. A captivating read with one of the most beautiful book covers I’ve ever seen! I’d recommend to fans of Virginia Boecker’s Witch Hunter and Alice Broadway’s Ink.

ALL THE CROOKED SAINTS

Maggie Stiefvater

In a place where miracles can happen, not all is as it seems. Three cousins try to make a difference, but darkness is waiting for them if they fail. This was as strange and beautiful as I’ve come to expect. It read like a fairy tale, perfect for autumn nights. Owls and miracles, fear and darkness, love and hope. I could feel the magic with each turn of the page.

MOXIE

Jennifer Mathieu

Inspired by her mom’s past, Vivian creates Moxie, a zine that highlights sexism in her high school – comments, T-shirt slogans, dress codes and more. She leaves the zines in the girls’ bathrooms, keeping it anonymous. The message soon spreads and girls fight back.

This book rocks! A fun, exciting read with characters to root for, cute romance, awesome friendships and a powerful feminist message. I felt like I was a part of it and I wanted to be. Inspiring and brilliant – a must-read!
