My alarm went off at 4:30 a.m. BUT for good reason! I was travelling to London for a blogger brunch at Scholastic. I don’t go to things like this often because I live so far away, but I knew this would be worth the journey, and it was.
I haven’t been to London for a few years so, with a couple of hours to spare after arriving, I headed to Foyles for the FIRST TIME. And it was glorious! After I’d paid for my new book, I had a drink in their café then headed back for the event at Scholastic.
I got my badge, pulled up a chair next to the lovely Daphne from Winged Reviews and across from Lucy from Queen of Contemporary (also very lovely), and listened to the team as they introduced their 2015 titles. And what a line up! Here are some I’m excited for:
Plus titles still awaiting covers, like the fourth book in the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater and P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han.
Then Melinda Salisbury, author of the astonishing new fantasy series starting with The Sin Eater’s Daughter, introduced herself and her book. I was lucky enough to read it earlier in the month and you can see my review here. Spoiler: I adored it. Melinda’s a wonderful person and completely lit up the room with her charm.
Eve Ainsworth, author of 7 Days (which I’m reading now and is excellent so far) introduced herself and the book next. Eve is so lovely and so clever and really blew me away with her passion, way of thinking, and depth to her ideas.
After that we chatted…
…got our books signed…
…and collected our goodie bags!
When the event was coming to a close, Melinda and I went to a separate room to record an interview for Down the Rabbit Hole on Resonance FM. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a huge fan of The Sin Eater’s Daughter so it was an honour to get to chat to Melinda about it in this way. Huge thanks to Scholastic for having me. It was a lovely afternoon and so nice to meet authors, readers, and the team.
